matter. this week as protesters mark the one-year anniversary of brown s death, it felt like deja vu. protests and vigils are mostly peaceful. after dark police moved in wearing riot gear following reports of looting and vandalism at some downtown businesses. then on monday more than 100 people were arrested for various acts of civil disobedience. more than 50 were arrested while protesting in st. louis. more than 60 arrested when they blocked interstate 70 during rush hour clasping hands across the busy road. one woman tried to drive her suv through the crowd, two protesters fought back and they were charged with assault and felony property damage. but the rest of the week was peaceful and yesterday after several nights of quiet, the county executive lifted the state of emergency saying, quote, i am please d to report our law enforcement officers have established order while
misrepresent any section like the f.o.p. reporter: fraternal order of police. is located in my district. reporter: they re not very happy right now. you know many of those guys work on a constant basis in partnership with many other communities throughout the district for the betterment. but i think more than anything when you have a couple of bad apples or you know most vocal people in the community that are not always acting in their best interest it s unfortunate they get the most attention. reporter: the people who got all the attention on monday night were the looters and rioters and it was lawless in the city of baltimore. i was here. it felt like places in the middle east that i had lived with. there was no law and the police were held back. they did nothing. i know that you represent a lot of downtown businesses. because of the looting and now because of the curfew you have lost a lot of businesses. do you think they have been treated fairly in all this? where is
they already there in riot gear at that point? yeah, they were already there. i mean, they had started to you know, they had already started to warn downtown businesses and institutions about the 3:00 p.m. purge. so they were very much on notice about this. we started reporting around 2:00 p.m. that businesses were starting to shut down and sending employees home at the recommendation of police. so they were very much prepared for this, and they did show up there in their gear, prepared for whatever may or may not happen. so they were there. and it looked at least from we were watching we were showing some footage earlier today, right near mondawmin mall where this all started to go down near the bus terminal there. it looked in the beginning that it wasn t that many youth.
