Brexit depresses European markets Oscar Williams-Grut
European stock markets opened lower on Friday, as fears about a potential no deal Brexit continued to hang over investors’ heads.
The UK has to until Sunday 13 December to reach a trade agreement with the EU, ahead of 1 January when Britain finally exits the remaining 27-nation bloc.
“There still seems to be some optimism that pragmatism will prevail as the 31st December deadline gets closer, and the realisation slowly dawns of the potential economic damage that could ensue in the days after a no deal outcome,” said Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets.
