Published in 1845 the narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass he tells his early life as a slave in maryland lynn tatian. Learning to read and working as a shipbuilder in baltimore and as cape from slavery to the north as a young adult. In of several memoirs he wrote about his life, this first narrative was an antislavery treatise, best and further the cause of abolition. For many readers outside of the south this may have been their introduction to the reality of slavery.
