Festus High School officials rescheduled a tribute to Douglass Cooperative High School, a school for Black students during segregation, before and during the Tiger boys basketball game Feb. 21 against St. Clair. The originally scheduled Douglass Night in January was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Despite dangerous cold, several dozen people left their homes to participate in the 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration held Jan.14 in Crystal City.
On Jan. 16, Festus High School officials will pay tribute to Douglass Cooperative High School, a school for Black students during segregation, before that night’s Tiger boys basketball game against Valle.
The 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration, which includes an annual march and presentation, starts with the march at 2 p.m. from First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City to Crystal City High School, followed by the presentation in the school.
