A Simi Valley police officer deployed a taser while arresting a suspected intoxicated driver who approached authorities with a weapon, the department said Friday.
The arrest began around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night at the intersection of Tapo Street and Industrial Avenue.
Officers were contacted about a DUI driver in the area and pulled the suspect over for a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Douglas Macias, 50, of Simi Valley, proceeded to exit his vehicle while holding a large pair of gardening shears.
Macias confronted police and challenged the officer to shoot him. A second responding officer arrived on scene as Macias continued to approach with the shears. To subdue Macias, one of the officers deployed a Taser conducted energy weapon, which stopped him from advancing further, according to police.
