Fundraising drive for busy local RNLI livesavers Posted: 5:21 pm April 30, 2021 By Roisin Henderson WITH the weather improving and lockdown easing, Fermanagh’s life-saving RNLI volunteers are preparing for a busy season ahead as people get back out on the water. The two local crews have already assisted several boaters in recent times, and over the past weekend alone the volunteers helped bring seven people to safety. Meanwhile, new figures have shown there was no rest for the local volunteers over the lockdowns, with local crews launching scores of times last year. On Sunday evening both the lifeboat and the Douglas Euan and Kay Richards rescue boat from Carrybridge station was tasked by the Belfast Coastguard to help a vessel with a crew of five which had run aground around one mile north east of Naan Island.

Two Callouts for Carrybridge RNLI Lifeboat on Lough Erne 27th April 2021 Carrybridge RNLI assisted seven people on two separate call outs at the weekend At 3.45 pm on Sunday 25 April, Carrybridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, Douglas Euan & Kay Richards and Rescue Water Craft (RWC) was launched to a vessel with two people on board, which had encountered engine difficulties approx. 2 miles north of Knockninny on Lough Erne. Winds were North Westerly, Force 1. Visibility was excellent. The lifeboat and RWC arrived with the casualty vessel which had drifted close to the shoreline. The volunteer crew checked the wellbeing of the people on the casualty boat and found they were safe and well. With the owner’s permission, a tow was established with the casualty vessel and the boat was then towed back to a private marina.
