Reporter police audio captures the sound of gun shots ringing out during a eighthour stand off with a man on thursday afternoon. Officer down. Officer down. Reporter Tara Osullivan was killed while responding to a Domestic Violence call at the home. We are devastated tonight. There are no words to convey the deping of sadness we feel or how heart broken we are for our family of our young, brave officer. Reporter she had been on the job for less than six months. She was working with a training officer. Police say she was helping a woman collect her belongings to leave the home when she was shot. I cannot believe a rescue can be accomplished yet until we lock down where shes at. Reporter it took place nearly an hour before they could get to officer osullivan because the gunman continued shooting. We have the officer out. Enroute to uc davis. Reporter the young officer died hours later. Investigators say the gunman remained holed up in the home, randomly firing shots before he surrendered

JEFFERSON CITY Missouri Republicans are taking another run at making it harder for citizen petitions to change the state constitution. That s a big deal: once proposed constitutional amendments are approved by voters, the legislature can’t change them without asking voters first. Progressive groups have taken advantage of that fact in recent years to go straight to voters on ethics reform and Medicaid expansion that couldn t pass in the GOP-dominated legislature.
