The word is shameful. Even that does not adequately describe the tone-deaf statement contained in the latest Lee Elci column, “Pandemic profits linked to Connecticut’s first couple,” (March 10), “…to walk to the basement and whisper in Joe’s ear, continually ramping up COVID-19 hysteria.” In what world is he living? Does he read the paper that publishes his column? Did he see the heartbreaking list of names of family, friends and neighbors who have died?
As deaths in the United States surpass 530,000, we are feeling hopeful because the death toll is dropping. Last week in the United States it was “only” equivalent to the total population of Bozrah, Franklin, Salem and Voluntown combined.

A charity which carries out life-saving emergency medical care is set to expand its service across Cumbria.
BEEP Doctors was set up in 1994 with three doctors to cover a 15-mile radius around Penrith.
It has also launched a campaign to raise £145,000 to buy lifesaving monitors.
Today, there are 16 volunteer doctors on the team, coming from both general practice and emergency medicine backgrounds, who bring their knowledge and skills to complement Cumbriaâs fantastic paramedic colleagues.
The new additions to the team will further bolster support for BEEP doctors already based around Carlisle and Penrith.
