A VILLAGE turned out to say goodbye to a postmaster who has been behind the counter since he was a teenager. Rowland Hunt’s family took over Bodenham post office and shop in 1965, playing a vital part in village life for decades. But the now 66-year-old has now sold his last stamp after deciding it was time to retire and spend more time with his grandchildren. But Bodenham was not about to let its much-loved postmaster go quietly, with an outdoor send-off planned to greet him as he locked the door for the final time at 5.30pm on Tuesday, April 20.

Among them was the donation of a skin graft to help a wounded colleague while fighting at the famous Battle of Omduran in 1898 and the three bouts of pneumonia and a stroke suffered while in office.

BELPRE The Belpre Police Department released the identity of the person who died as a result of an accident on Tuesday afternoon at Farson Street and Ohio 7 in Belpre.
Dorothy Pugh, 85, of Waterford, was identified as the fatality in the accident, which remained under investigation Wednesday.
The accident involved three vehicles, including an ambulance which was transporting equipment. No other injuries were reported.
