Medical treatment and the military response to the pandemic are expected to push Tricare costs $1 billion higher than anticipated in the fiscal 2021 budget. The remaining $800,000 in unexpected increases will be in the military health system itself, according to Dr. Terry Adirim, acting assistant secretary of defense for health affairs.

By ERICA EARL | STARS AND STRIPES Published: December 17, 2020 An airman from Misawa Air Base has created an easy emergency checklist that earned recognition from the Air Force surgeon general and the American Red Cross. Staff Sgt. Julia DaSilva, of the 35th Medical Group, designed a pocket-sized card that lists first-aid fundamentals for easy access in a medical emergency, the 35th Fighter Wing said Dec.10 in a news release. DaSilva, of Port Saint John, Fla., has a lead role in the air base’s response to the coronavirus pandemic as flight chief for the medical group’s COVID cell. The card she created includes step-by-step instructions for treating an unresponsive person.
