With just days left in the Maryland legislative session, immigrant community members and activists are demanding action, and they are planning a massive rally outside of the statehouse in Annapolis on Wednesday morning.
The session ends Monday and there are key immigration bills still on the table. HB23 and HB16 are stuck in the Senate. The Driver Privacy Act would prohibit state and local government agencies from providing records or data to ICE. Last week, the House passed the Dignity Not Detention Act which would effectively end ICE contracts at three county jails in the state, and jurisdictions would be prohibited from entering into contracts with the federal agency and private prison companies down the line.
