The NSPCA, South Africa’s biggest animal welfare organisation, has called for a review of the environment department’s authorisation of CGG’s application to conduct a seismic survey off the coast of the southeastern Cape.
More than 20 protest actions took place across the country over the weekend, objecting to all 22 current applications to drill and blast for oil and gas offshore in South Africa, including TotalEnergies and the CGG seismic survey planned for January 2024, which was recently granted authorisatio.
Environmental and social activists are set to stage protests around SA on Saturday against three recent seismic authorisations including one between Plettenberg Bay and Algoa Bay.
