Assembly members introduce alternative borough budgets

Kodiak Island Borough assembly members continued to wrestle with the draft fiscal year 2022 budget at a special work session Tuesday. The work session, requested by Borough Mayor Bill Roberts, examined two proposed alternatives to the borough manager’s draft budget and its amended cut. Both alternatives were drafted by two groups of assembly members — one by Duane Dvorak and Geoff Smith, and the other by James Turner, Scott Arndt and Aimee Williams.  The two budget amendments propose to preserve nonprofit funding requested by the assembly on May 20 while avoiding drastic cuts that the manager’s revised draft made to the community development department.
