Thousands Lose Power in Northern Michigan

9 & 10 News March 11, 2021 Outages started out around 7,000 Thursday morning and peaked with more than 13,000 without power all at once early Thursday afternoon. The largest outage was in Cheboygan County, with more than 5,700 without power. Roscommon had the second highest at 2,518. Isabella County reported about 1,600, Shepherd Public Schools closed because of the outage there. Clare had more than 1,400 without power, Montmorency reported more than 1,300, and several other counties reported smaller outages. If your power is out, contact your power provider for an estimated restoration time. Consumers Energy has a map that provides estimated restoration times. And on their website, they warn high winds could accompany outages on Thursday.

Dangerous Whiteout Conditions Close M-28 in Chippewa Co

M-28 Back Open in Chippewa Co. After Closing for Dangerous Whiteout Conditions March 1, 2021 More than seven miles of M-28 are back open in Chippewa County after they closed due to whiteout conditions. Both lanes were closed between M-221 and I-75 Monday afternoon when up to 40 vehicles were in the ditch,  stuck, or parked in the roadway. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s department says no one was injured. Deputies responded to several crashes Monday morning, including one involving multiple vehicles on M-28 near Soo Line. Police were called out to M-28 around 9 a.m. No one was injured, but a car did end up in the ditch.

Winter Weather Blankets Northern Michigan in Snow

9 & 10 News December 30, 2020 With snow storms like the one we’re seeing this morning, you’ll want to stay safe on the roads. It can get slick out there, and if you’re leaving early this morning for work, you’ll want to be extra careful. Before you head out this morning, you’ll want to brush the snow off your windshield and your windows so you have visibility. The roads are slick, so you’ll want to leave a little extra time to wherever your going and keep your distance from cars and trucks in front of you. Now If you see a plow truck, make sure your especially keeping your distance there. You want to leave about four to 10 car lengths between you and the back of the truck so they can do their jobs

Power Outages Impact More Than 2,000 on Christmas Eve

9 & 10 News December 24, 2020 Power outages are hitting people on a holiday. More than 2,300 are without power in Northern Michigan. About 700 in Missaukee County and another 1,600 in Midland County. To view the current state of power outages in Michigan, go here.  People without power should check with their power providers for expected restoration times. Consumers Energy uses this map to inform its users.
