I think its unrealistic to think theres a way to stop these wrong way crashes with all of the impaired drivers out there but state officials are going to give it their best shot starting with these wrong way do not enter signs along the offramps. The freeways are getting more dangerous. You dont know what is going to happen from one moment the next. Early this morning, another deadly crash caused by a wrong way driver, 245 wrong way accidents in 10 years. And that resulted in 91 fatalities. The high number prompted arizonas department of Public Safety to put up oversized wrong way and do not enter signs along freeway off ramps, but its not always enough with impaired drivers. What about those metal stop sticks. Could those be used. Studies show that the stop sticks are not a good option. They dont hold up, they break off and they become a safety issue for drivers in other vehicles and can affect the ability for First Responders who sometimes go wrong way.
