The Middle Class of Indianapolis
May 18, 2021
A national nonprofit called WorkingNation spent four years in Indianapolis researching, reporting and interviewing people about how the middle class is changing. The result is called The Middle: Indianapolis.
Today we talk to people who led the project to find out how the workplace has changed in the last four years for middle class Hoosiers. We also talk to participants of the project, including a former Carrier worker, to hear their stories.
Produced by Drew Daudelin.
Indianapolis, once the epicenter of manufacturing in America, is at a crossroads. Manufacturing jobs are vanishing and more-technical jobs are taking their place. Can the middle class survive? WorkingNation talks to local leaders and the middle-class workers chasing the American Dream for themselves and their families - even as the world of work shifts beneath their feet.
This latest Inquire Within digital magazine was assembled by WorkingNation s team of Emmy-, Peabody- and Murrow award-winning videographers and journalists, including veterans of ABC News, CNBC, ESPN Films and The Wall Street Journal. WorkingNation s projects have been showcased on such outlets as PBS and CNN.
