all right. let s talk about the year ahead in politics because 2014 was pretty darn interesting and i think 2015 is going to be as well. ben ferguson and mel robbins back with me. mel, what is 2015 going to be for the president? you know, i think it s going to be the year of executive orders because he s lost control of the congress and, actually one thing that a lot of people aren t talking about is 24 states poppy, are now 100% controlled by the republicans legislature and the governorship so i think this is going to be the year where congress plows ahead without him and he s going to be left doing things by executive order, poppy. so, ben, one piece of advice for the president in 2015? don t overreach. don t go too far on your own
is for democrats. they are at maximum leverage and get as muchs they can. they don t feel like they need to give away things. if you look at the polling, you can understand why they feel like they will stick to the hard lineup until the deadline. there is confusion about where republicans united. senate republicans seem to be united on the issue about the sequestration number and what their line in the sand is. it was about health care. they admitted we overreach on that. don t overreach on the spending caps. republicans want something. they want a big leap on the health care law. they went from repeal to a two-year delay. they want something out of the health care law. the view that the law should stay as it is.
impeachment and how oh, we re getting there. oh, i m sorry. we re doing the let s take that as the segue to go to lesson number two. and this is, don t overreach on scandals. so explain that. so the series of scandals that started with whitewater and culminated in the monica lewinsky scandal, also worked out badly because the public saw it for what it was. an expression of primal distaste and just dislike for a democratic president. and bill clinton, he was not impeached, as some democrats think, for the misdeeds he did and he was not he was ultimately impeached because he was a democrat in the white house. and that s what and the mismanagement, i guess, or the obsession with sort of bringing him down is something republicans have learned from. you have issues like the irs scandal and other things that the president that the president is worried about now, which republicans are not going after in the same way they did
there. so, you better believe there will be some warnings from some in the republican circles essentially saying, take it step-by-step, be careful, and don t overreach. shepard: mike good, to see you. thank you. would you also getting new reaction to the scandal from the white house. wendell is there. how did press secretary jay carney react to congressman issa calling him a paid liar? shep, the former journalist knows it rarely pays to make yourself part of the story so he refused to get into a back and forth. he took the high road, said the president was outraged at the irs applying tea party groups and he pointed out the treasury department s inspector general didn t find any indication that the white house was involved. when i spoke about the situation, i was referring to the findings of the independent inspector general, who, let s be clear, said that he, both in
certainly, there should be investigations and of the irs, which i think is the really serious one of these three. what we know, amanda, is that there have been republicans who have been warning saying don t overreach. stop using words like water gate and impeachment, but when you listen to darrell issa, it doesn t seem everybody s gotten that memo from fellow republicans. john mccain this morning has said he s concerned about a lot of what s going on, especially on benghazi. he said he disagrees with congressman issa calling jay carney a liar, saying we shouldn t be name calling and tossing that name around. when you start name calling and you don t base your accusations on facts, it starts to look a bit like a middle school brawl. i think congressman issa has to be careful. sort of let the facts speak for themselves and put out the strongest thing. don t get distracted by these side shows. i want to bring in congressman mark if i can. good to see you, congressman.
