work across the aisle. i d like to see a little more participation by both sides. you re a former fbi agent. i said gowdy was a former prosecutor. you re former fbi. thank you. is it tax hike or tax relief or both? how do democrats explain the president s plan. we spoke with chris van holland a few minutes ago. nice to see you. great to be with you, greta. president obama said the last thing you want to do is raise taxes in a recession, the recession being an economic term. a lot of people feel we re in a recession that don t have jobs. now taxes under president obama s plan would go up for those making $250,000 or more, right? at the end of this year. there are two parts of the president s plan. the first part of the plan is the jobs initiative which has been sitting before the republican congress since last september which would help boost the economy. the other part of the president s plan is to have a long term deficit reduction plan
with anyone in congress who is willing to make progress on comprehensive immigration reform that addresses our economic needs and security needs. he also makes a point in the middle of the statement of trumpeting his recent decision to amend our deportation laws. in terms of this statement and the white house and also comprehensive immigration reform we were discussing in the last block that that sort of is not the elephant in the room because i think everybody widely acknowledges that s what needs to be done but in terms of moving the ball forward on that, the jury is very much still out. i think it s a problem because too many politicians are saying that you can t touch this at a time of a soft economy. you can t do something that creates a path to citizenship for undocumented workers when there are people here in this country who are here legally who don t have jobs. the problem with that argument and that sort of reluctance is the fact that actually passing a path to citizenship
should not be here. people who have committed crimes and doing things against the interest of the united states. people here illegally should not be here, chris. the president is trying to change the conversation. when you look at our unemployment rate and look at the education system and the brown and black community, that s what he s trying to do, trying to get more support from the latino community, and he s dividing this country even more. he needs to be more concerned about the people who are here legally, that don t have jobs. that s why you have the report reporter asked while the president was speaking, asking what about the american jobs here today. the unemployment rate in the latino community 11%, in the black community, over 14%, and that s what the president should be concerned about. angela, i m going to object to you calling that guy a reporter, i don t know whether he was a reporter or more of a partisan heckler. that said, listen, i have a pretty big heart. i want
them away from the help wanted ads because they don t need to. we are paying people not to would work. my heart totally goes out to people who don t have jobs and worried about paying the mortgages or grocery bill but we are paying people not to work and they are taking it and not working. i only see my anecdotal evidence which is all over malibu and rancho mirage we see help wanted signs and people come in and hear it is a minimum wage job and they don t fill out an application because they could do better getting unmany ployment benefits. they must go back to work even if it is a poorly paid job. it is a mat aer of dignity. neil: a snap shot of malibu i guess. providing unemployment benefits removes incentive for people to go out and work hard. you are delaying people from making the tough choices they need to make which is perhaps
