i ll tell you, the lesson i learned is what we ve seen in the last couple months has been extraordinary. we have seen millions of americans rise up, over 2 million americans signed a national petition at don t fund it.com and melted the phone lines down at capitol hill. just a couple months ago official washington scoffed that that might happen. we also saw the house of representatives stand up, exercise a profile of courage listening to the people and saying we ve got to provide real relief from obama care for the people who are being hurt from obama care. that again a couple months ago all of official washington said would never happen. now, the reason this failed was simple. senate republicans didn t unite. you know, you mentioned that you don t think this could ever succeed. let me ask you a hypothetical. imagine this same battle played out with one thing different. imagine if after the house had passed a bill funding all of the federal but defunding obama care, imagine if senate
the fundamental problem in washington is washington is not listening to america. what happened? this fight on obama care, we went and made the case to the american people, launched a national website, don t fund it.com. in a matter of just a few weeks, over 2 million americans signed that petition on don t fund it.com. [ applause ] it is because of you that the house of representatives has been standing strong. because the house has been listening to the people. [ applause ] it is because of you that for the past two months the country has engaged in a national debate about the enormous harms obama care is
of the exemptions and changes and waivers, and everything else, you d be fine with doing that? you don t like it but think that be would, that would be your responsibility at that point to naund law? yes. i don t know we can go back. i m saying is that had been all we re dealing with, had he never opened this door in july, i don t think to defund the obama care movement would have taken off. i don t think don t fund it.com would have gotten two million signatures in just weeks because americans would never have looked at this and seen the hypocrisy of a president saying i m forcing this law on you that you never wanted and a law i m not willing to follow. is that the reason why this is taken off like it has. because the president isn t willing to follow his own law. greta: senator, nice to see you, thank you, sir. thank you, greta. up next former senator rick santorum is here, he was in the senate 17 years ago z our political panel is back and our live coverage of the
