right to work this seems to be an issue that the republicans are quiet about, but on a state level where they re making a push here. how successful do you think they could be? i think they can be successful. unfortunately they ve gotten a majority that is you know vetoproof, and it s really difficult for these minorities at the state houses and state senates to overrule. so it takes the rest of us people like you to talk and to let people no and let the republicans know that we don t want toss right to work states. i love in one. this is a real avalanche comer. number one what does it mean to the workers? and number two, what is the best way to filed it. what it means is raising wages or eliminating bargaining power. for those of you who have unions, we have to constantly
and i think the reason this is happening now is because jeb bush has moved the timeline. governor bush is to the republicans what hillary clinton is to the democrats. in casino parlance here in las vegas, they call him the cooler because they freeze the dough. all the big money, which is the mother s milk of presidential politics, is on hold right now, waiting for these two folks to announce. so if you re mike huckabee you got to get out there now. and i bet they re having a meeting at team romney. well what about that john? there s no question that mike huckabee is not jeb bush. they re different when it comes to social conservative issues. and i don t put jeb bush and hillary clinton on the same level. i think george clinton could i think huckabee has shot himself in the foot so many times he could run for deputy of may berry, but this man is the best public speaker in the entire republican party.
where we can make a difference, not just defense. the federal level will get next to nothing done. annette, what really concerns you the most about this republicans agenda? it s very clear what they have done since 2010 that they have targeted state houses state-controlled to chip away at work workers rights. you have been involved in national politics with the progressive movement. what challenges does this bring to the progressive movement? i think our challenge is to really give away the message. i mean to talk about the importance of workers. i mean it s a business. you re nothing, you re nothing if you don t have your workers, and having happy workers is what makes your business successful. so they very much say they re pro-business. so are we. we are pro-business but we re also about making our employees happy and making sure everybody has the rights that they deserve as workers.
anywhere else. to me that s just a ridiculous amendment. i think what we re trying to point out is refute the republicans charges. they re saying it creates jobs it s good for our energy policies it s all these things that it s not. so i think the amendment process will point out the real weakness of this legislation. senator cardin good to have you with us tonight. thanks so much. thank you. let me bring in bart shelton, the former commissioner of the commodities trading commission and also from the league of women voters. bart, will this project lower gas prices? america? will consumers sew an effect? i don t think so. global oil demand and supply is what a affects prices.
upcoming gnaw raise means the gop has more control in state houses than ever before. before election day they control 45 now they hold 68. the plan is to launch a fresh assault, on education, and put personal and corporate income taxes. republicans in at least nine states want to pass right-to-work legislation. bills targeting public sector employees unions sparked protests back in 2011 and also in ohio democrats and union officials are officials say republicans are going to far. larry cohen jones me and also with us annette tebeo, vice chair of the florida democratic party. annette, you first, looking at
