Bicester mum to take part in Walk for Autism campaign

A BICESTER mum is raising awareness about an ‘invisible disability’ that affects her son and others close to her. Donna Randall will join hundreds of people across the UK and Ireland by walking 10,000 steps a day for eight days to raise funds for autistic people and their families as part of the fourth annual Walk for Autism campaign. Ms Randall, who works at Southwold School in Bicester, is taking part in the challenge because her 12-year-old son Casey was diagnosed with the disability last year. She said she did not know much about autism before, but is now learning about the challenges autistic people experience daily.

Locals remember meeting EastEnders star Barbara Windsor when she owned The Plough, in Winchmore Hill

National treasure Dame Barbara Windsor is perhaps best known for her role as Peggy Mitchell, the Queen Vic’s battle-axe landlady in EastEnders. But the actress was also a landlady in real life, owning and running The Plough, in Winchmore Hill, near Amersham, for a number of years. And those who knew or met her spoke of her warmth and down-to-earth nature. Donna Randall, from Chalfont St Peter, met the star at the pub in the 1980s when she joined her husband and his work colleagues for an impromptu Christmas lunch. She told the BFP: “We just decided to go to her pub for our meal. We weren’t expecting to see or meet her as we knew she was in the panto at the time.
