Is Expansion in the Works for Missoula Currents Building?

Is Expansion in the Works for Missoula Currents Building? One big change in moving to Missoula from Florida was the limited access to swimming pools. Our daughter was a water baby and most days included swimming of some sort. But pools were everywhere...it was almost more rare to find a housing development or a backyard that didn t have one. So one place that we ve visited quite a bit since moving to Missoula is Currents. Looking for something to do with the family on a random weekend, wanting to swim in the winter months, grandparents coming to town and they want to do something fun with the kids, and birthday parties are all reasons that have had us getting our splash on at Currents.

The Currents facility is currently dominated by a pool, with several lanes for lap swimming, a kids area, a waterslide, a hot tub, and Missoula Parks and Recreation office space. The project being discussed a “Community Center for Missoula” is part of phase two of the city’s master plan for McCormick Park that was laid out in 2003.

While the cost of the contract with MacArthur, Means & Wells is covered by existing impact fees, opponents of the design process fear it will lead to another general obligation bond and leave taxpayers with ongoing costs.

Here we are: Missoula campus group brings diversity to the outdoors

Here Montana, a BIPOC — Black/Indigenous/people of color — program run through the Missoula Parks and Recreation Department gets people outdoors. The 20 participants stood in a circle, their bundled snow clothes and keen energy keeping them warm. Whirling snow fell from the sky dusting their hats and scarves. Fog obscured the surrounding mountains. Other cross-country skiers passed by the group, towing sleds or getting towed by leashed dogs on their way to the links of the University of Montana Golf Course.
