Rob Neukirch of Floyd spied the headline above last Tuesdayâs column â âIn defense of Reps. Ben Cline and Morgan Griffithâ â on his phone. It was accompanied by a sinking feeling.
He thought, âOh no, whatâs happened to Dan?â Neukirch wrote in an email. Then he read the rest of the column, which appeared five days after April 1.
âYou got me!â he wrote.
His missive was among scores emails, phone calls and online comments regarding the column. Which means itâs time for the April reader mailbag.
The tongue-in-cheek defense of Western Virginiaâs representatives followed an onslaught of unkind Letters to the Editor published in this newspaper. Most indicated disgust with Clineâs and Griffithâs support of âStop the Stealâ efforts to overturn the election of President Joe Biden.
Elizabeth Curnew
IRON MOUNTAIN Elizabeth “Liz” Curnew, 72, of Iron Mountain passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, at her daughters home surrounded by friends and family.
Liz was born on Aug. 18, 1948, in Camden, N.J., daughter of the late Thomas Curnew and Beth (Savage) Frost. She was a graduate of Traverse City High School class of 1966, and later attended nursing school at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, Mich., attaining her license as a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
Liz met her husband, Ralph Stallman, at a dance in Maple City, Mich., through friends of close relatives and were married in July of 1967. Together Liz and Ralph raised four children, Heidi, Todd, Michelle and Janet. Liz made a career as a loving homemaker and LPN at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, while residing in Suttons Bay, Mich. She was known for her devotion to her family and her Catholic faith and her kindness to her patients.

It started as a challenge to Winnipeggers to create a Christmas card for someone they don’t know, and a helpful group of Portagers took it up the call for their region.
The cards were to be distributed to people in the hospital over the holidays through the Alzheimer Society after the organization put the challenge out to all the Alzheimer Society Manitoba staff to do the same.

“After talking with Chris Dumont, the Executive Director of the Herman Prior Activity Centre, where the local Alzheimer Society has recently located to, she said that a Scrapbooking Group that she belongs to, called Cross Country Croppers here in Portage la Prairie, would love to be a part of this,” said Donna Frost, Regional Coordinator ASM.
