According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ dashboard, the numbers keep dropping in North Carolina as Covid cases decline and vaccines slowly creep up. Of the 10.49 million population in North Carolina, 37.5% is fully vaccinated, with 41.8% partially vaccinated.
The 65-and-older population have reached 75% full vaccination compared to 47.4% of the 18-to-64 population.
There are 995,754 Covid-19 cases in the state, and hospitalizations continue a downward trek from 815 to 763, with 12,958 deaths since Covid began. Newly reported cases have gone up since last week from 688 to 1,020. The state’s percent positivity fell from 4.7% to 3.4%.

WILMINGTON Five days after Gov. Roy Cooper lifted the mask mandate for most settings, UNCW announced Wednesday it would follow suit and significantly curtail Covid-19 restrictions.
The university just began its first round of summer classes a period that even before the pandemic was dominated by online instruction and the campus is sparsely populated. But for fall 2021, university leaders have planned for months to host a traditional semester; the latest easing of Covid-19 directives adds momentum.

WILMINGTON Gov. Roy Cooper exited a black SUV alongside his security detail early Thursday afternoon to greet local politicians who had gathered outside a downtown Wilmington vaccine clinic.
The governor was in New Hanover County to tour the Martin Luther King Center a city-owned building that has serviced more than 12,000 vaccine appointments since late January.

NEW HANOVER & BRUNSWICK COUNTIES, N.C. (WECT) - New Hanover County Health and Human Services and Brunswick County Health Services have expanded their vaccine availability to people 12 and older beginning Thursday, May 13.
After the FDA expanded Emergency Use Authorization for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to include 12-15-year-old children Monday, the CDCâs Advisory committee on Immunization Practices gave its formal approval Wednesday evening. This action opens vaccination to approximately 17 million adolescents.

Governor Roy Cooper is looking toward June 1 to lighten restrictions that North Carolinians have been following throughout Covid-19, from business capacity and gathering limitations to social-distancing measures. Dr. Mandy Cohen, N.C. Department of Health and Human Services secretary, said masks and safety recommendations will be heavily ongoing through the next month to ensure the goals are reached.
“I plan to issue an executive order next week outlining safety restrictions for the month of May,” Cooper added.
