Adams to Seek CDBG Funding for Coal & Grain Park

The coal and grain building was once a stop on the rail line and now borders the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail.  ADAMS, Mass.   The town plans to apply for funds to construct the proposed Hoosac Valley Coal and Grain park on Cook Street. Members of the Community Development Department gave a presentation to the Selectmen at its Wednesday workshop and informed the board that now that the park designs are complete, the town can apply for funds to begin park.   We want to honor the location adjacent to the rail trail, Becky Ferguson said. And also the Berkshire Scenic Rail Line and honor the history of the site.

Becky Ferguson, program manager for Adams’ Community Development Department, laid out the conceptual plan for the park at the property surrounding the old grain tower at Cook and Columbia streets. The park has been in development since the early 2000s. The grain tower and seed store are considered iconic to the town’s history. It was once a busy center of commerce, with trains loading up grain from the tower and locals farmers stocking up on seed. They also sold coal.

Adams Begins Conversation About New Cumberland Farms Proposal

  The Framingham-based convenience store chain is still trying to redevelop a site that houses a garage and residential properties on Commercial Street (Route 8) between Prospect and Elm.   The proposal is for a roughly 4,000-square-foot convenience store located directly in the center of the property, said Luke DiStefano of Albany, N.Y., s Bohler Engineering. The facility itself will be served by 27 parking spaces, the majority of which will be located in the front and on the [south] side with a handful on the right side of the building, adjacent to Prospect Street.   Cumberland Farms is proposing a 24-foot by 122-foot canopy situated above four multiproduct dispensers located in the front center portion of the property. The four multiproduct dispensers, because they can fuel cars on either side, would result in eight fueling positions at this location, and those dispensers would be serviced by two 20,000-gallon underground storage tanks located in the front left c
