Barratt Homes wants to build 260 homes on almost 20 acres of farmland off Owl Lane at Chidswell, near Dewsbury.
The area is earmarked for 1,500 homes in total. It is one of the biggest developments in North Kirklees.
And despite concerns over the impact on local roads from extra houses and a lack of cash for supporting infrastructure, such as a new roundabout to access the estate, the scheme was approved.

There was much debate at a meeting of Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee over whether local roads could cope with an increased amount of cars from houses on the new estate.
