SCRANTON, Pa. Two intersections along Cedar Avenue in Scranton s south side will soon be getting an upgrade thanks to state funding.
The PennDOT Green Light-Go program awarded the city $488,000 to install modern traffic signals and equipment where Cedar Avenue meets East Elm Street and Maple Street. Grants like this Green Light-Go program really help us get there and really just the amount of money it costs, it still boggles my mind whenever I look at the costs. These types of grants are absolutely essential to us moving forward, said Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti.
Metro briefs: Edina to preserve smaller homes

In response to residents concerned about modest homes being torn down and replaced with luxury housing, Edina created a program to buy smaller single-family homes and ensure they remain affordable for families.
Stephanie Hawkinson, the city s affordable housing development manager, said in a news release that while some homeowners are thinking of selling, they are reluctant to sell to developers. Under the new program, eligible single-family homes valued at up to $425,000 can be purchased through the city, which partners with the nonprofit Homes Within Reach. The nonprofit then sells the homes to a community land trust.
