Salvation Army Angel Tree gifts are due today

Hays Daily News             Those who took tags from the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree are asked to turn in their newly-purchased gifts by the end of the day today, Dec. 18, said Julie Smith, executive director of the Salvation Army in Ellis County.             The gifts, which will go to children from low-income families, should be returned unwrapped to Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, 4310 Vine.  Smith said the program would serve about 125 children, ages birth through 18, this year.              Volunteers are needed to wrap the gifts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the Hadley Center Conference Room, 205 E. Seventh.  Volunteers are also needed to hand out gifts to families from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, in the same location.  Volunteer walk-ins are welcome, Smith said.

Divine Mercy Radio celebrates 10 years of broadcasting HAYS Divine Mercy Radio began broadcasting December 20, 2010. The non-profit, non-commercial radio station will celebrate its 10th birthday with various contests as well as birthday cupcakes and hot cider from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the studio office, located at 108 E. 12th St., Hays. “The past 10 years have been a labor of love,” said Donetta Robben, executive director of Divine Mercy Radio. “We became an organization in 2007, but it took three years to get a radio station on the air.”
