Late 1974, 16-year-old John O’Neill and younger brother Vinny were playing no-frills songs on guitars in their front room at No 22, Beechwood Avenue on Derry’s Bogside. They soon formed what could be loosely termed a band, with friends Billy Doherty and Mickey Bradley from the Creggan estate, on drums and bass respectively.
