converting it into rubble and that s exactly the war strategy they are pursuing now in the remaining donbas area. they don t have the capabilities nor the military ability to take our cities without many casualties and without casualties to their own side and the only way to do that is to destroy everything and convert the cities to rubble and that s exactly what s happening. you talk about the remaining donbas best area because the russian side are now seeing they are near completion when it comes to the liberation of donbas. how do you see it? they are far from it. if you look at the map, the donbas area is both donatsk region and the levansk region so they are close to perhaps so far but still managed to take the luhansk region. the donetsk region is still largely on our control and that several the donestk are part of the region so that s currently being raised to the ground and completely shelled
flexibility to transfer weapons to poland and to the ukrainians wherever weapons are needed, that flex bill la will be open. i like the ability with the lend-lease program for our commanders. lieutenant general, as a senior u.s. defense official told nbc news, russian forces added additional battalions to their offensive in the donbas area, but literally getting stuck in the mud. what do you make of the fact that russians are still apparently not able to have logistically effective and efficient movements? assessed now that there are 97 battalion tactical groups in the donbas area. the problem is during this season here in europe, it s pretty much high with rain, so the vehicles are being regulated to the roads instead of being able to take advantage of the
russians will want to pivot. they ll want to move their forces from mariupol to the north, towards the donbas area, and specifically to the ukrainian army elements that are facing them in that part of the donbas. so, what they could be doing is they could move those forces from the south into the center part of the country, to join with forces that they have coming from the north and the northeast. so that would be the goal on paper, whether or not they can actually do that. of course, is another question. so much of what we will learn about what happened won t be learned immediately, right? especially when we look at bucha as an example. we didn t know the extent of what had happened there until russian forces had left and we learned about the atrocities there. there is certainly much to be learned about the horrors that have happened in mariupol over the last several weeks. kim, when do you think we ll actually know the extent of that? the fact is that that territory is in russian
cnn of course but were you nervous about being there? were you in fear of their safety and security there? we know there is a risk. we know we were in a war zone when you re driving around in kyiv, you would see you re in the war zone but you can also see the individuals, the ukrainians would prepare to defend themselves and in fact, the russians couldn t succeed to take over kyiv. and so now that s one of the things we talked about, that there is a war that is going to a different stage and different types of weapons that they need and that s part of what this $33 billion is so that as it moves to the donbas area, which is not a city like facility where there
this new drone. we know it s a big mystery right now. this phoenix ghost drone is believed to be in some ways similar to the switchblade drone which we ve talked about before. this is small, it can be carried in a backpack, troops can launch it in a minutes notice. it doesn t go that far, it doesn t hang in the air that long and doesn t move that fast but it can be used to drive down upon a target, a tank, anything they want to, an artillery position and blow it up and they have been used with great effectiveness. so what is different about the phoenix ghost? the pentagon says it requires some minimal training for knowledgeable drone operators. so, in other words, people who can already use the switchblade drone can probably learn to operate this quickly. differences in the scope of capability, they will not say what this is but one might imagine that it has something to do with the speed and loitering time and it was developed for the set of requirements that very closely match what
