i like what he s doing. i ve not been a fan of the extra discussion that he likes to engage in, but we re going to soldier on. we like his positions and we re going to pursue them as vigorously as we can. was there criticism in the middle of that sandwich? yes. what editors also do is read between the lines. he s saying this is the must undisciplined politician i ve ever seen in my life. i also think we re playing in a different sand box than donald trump is. and the fact that he can scream a headline and all of a sudden it becomes truth, he doesn t have to go and follow up with the policy or proposal that he did. they have to just say he s trying, doing his thing that is correct darn washington, the
with fallon, i think he s trying to make up for that hair fussing, goofy way that he handled trump when he was on the show before. that was embarrassing. mark, i don t want to get too deep, it s friday night, you know what i m saying? happy friday night, everybody. journalists have a role. culture has a role, comedy has a role, music has a role when you think about the blues and american traditions. in a presidency that has a lot of dark notes for people around the country who feel they are being isolated or targeted, there s still so much to freak out and joke about. it s a very thin line. i disagree with them producing the material. trump produces the material. it writes itself.
but we are welcomed to have happy holidays, even though we are haters and losers. when donald trump is caught halfway in between campaign mode and governing mode, nothing is getting done. he s doing neither of the above. as entertaining as he was on the campaign trail, that was all we re getting for him and he s not doing anything. but he doesn t know how to do anything. there s also a strategic question about whether he would rather fight with the press or the resistance, which is growing around the country. the opponent was hillary clinton in the campaign. who s the opponent here? that s a political question mark because they may feel they re better off not dealing with the democrats or the protests. i think so. and they re still playing to the base that they believed elected them. that s why i m say they re still campaigning. that plays to the people back home who want to believe everybody s enemy, he s a victim. he s a constant victim. the court victimized him.
jonathan, the people who are strongly with trump are strongly with trump. but what seems to be the connective tissue, this is not a time to run the government, it time to stay with those people. do they actually care whether the national security adviser position is filled? apparently not. donald trump is communicating effectively to his supporters. it s something we ve seen before. even in the debates, there were three debates that hillary clinton i think won by all sort of traditional metrics and at the same time donald trump was very effectively communicating to his supporters during those debates. i think he s able to do that well. i think if somebody is able to build a following and keep it going. but there are external factors that will eventually erode that if he can t manage the white house.
it would be also funny if rosie was in the sketch but a different character. i m reminded of the old joke, what do we want? a time machine. when do we want it? it s irrelevant. as mark said, we don t write our own material. i want to thank my guests, a very fun conversation. i appreciate it. coming up, we have something on the resistance that donald trump should expect or at least get ready for at that big rally tomorrow in orlando and the rest of the weekend.
