Conservatives bolster North East Lincolnshire council control

Conservatives bolster North East Lincolnshire council control Labour were kicked out of six seats Returning Officer, Chief Executive of North East Lincolnshire Council, Rob Walsh, announces the turnout. The Conservatives have bolstered their strength in North East Lincolnshire with eight gains out of 14 seats available. There were 61 candidates contesting across 12 wards. It means the Conservatives now hold 31 seats – up from 23. Meanwhile, Labour have lost six seats for a total of eight, while the Liberal Democrats lost one and UKIP also lost their single place on the authority. Conservatives took overall control of the council in 2019 after wrestling control from a Labour/Liberal Democrat alliance. The result will be a big blow to the Labour party who were hoping to regain seats following their loss of power.

Diversity awards, online conventions, and authors incarcerated in the neo-slavery system

Diversity awards, online conventions, and authors incarcerated in the neo-slavery system March 4, 2021 Writing while Black: Spring 2021 edition by Sumiko Saulson Many of you have probably noticed by now that I have stepped back on the number of columns I write per year. Due to the global pandemic, conventions have taken place online for almost a year now.  While I am very happy that we now have a vaccine, at the present time only high-risk people like seniors, nursing home residents, and healthcare workers are receiving it. With a 95 percent efficacy in infection prevention, unknowns regarding new strains of COVID-19 and a still undetermined general public roll out rate, it is highly unlikely that large footprint venues such as convention centers will become open to the public in the first half of this year.
