Three police officers working in Monroe County received special awards recently from the Exchange Club of Northside Bloomington.
This marked the 60th year the organization has bestowed Officer of the Year awards to law enforcement personnel recognized for special contributions to public safety.
The tradition is based on President John Kennedy’s 1961 designation of May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. It is during that week the local exchange club announces its officers of the year.
At a recent luncheon, three police officers were recognized, one from 2020 and two from 2021. Because of the pandemic, last year’s awards were given out at this year’s ceremony.
