Fundraiser for Backstreet Cultural Museum Underway Backstreet Cultural Museum released a statement this week that it is raising funds to keep the cultural institution open. Considered to be the preeminent place to learn about the history of Mardi Gras Indian, social aid and pleasure clubs, second lines and jazz funeral culture, Backstreet located in Treme has become one of the city’s most treasured and unique local cultural institutions. In an announcement, director Dominique Dilling stated: “During this Christmas Season, we’re asking that you add us to your gift list. Like many other Non-profit organizations, in the midst of Covid 19, we have been deeply affected financially. Currently, Backstreet Cultural Museum is open on an appointment only basis, but business is slow. We’re reaching out to members, friends and the community to help us continue to function and preserve our fantastic culture.
