With just weeks left in the school year, freshmen, sophomores and juniors in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District will return to campus on a limited basis later this month.

Students in ninth through 11th grades will remain in distance learning for now out of an abundance of caution and safety, Garcia said with district leaders re-evaluating the status on a weekly basis.
“It’s possible we may bring all the students back, but there is another potential reality that maybe we can only bring some of our students back, so (it’s) yet to be determined,” Garcia said.
Bringing staff back first would provide training on cameras and monitors, reviewing classroom setups and learning other new procedures.
The planned hybrid schedule would keep all students in remote learning on Mondays. For now, distance learning plans would not change for freshmen through juniors. All students will have some sort of live interaction with teachers daily Monday through Friday.
