Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to the performance of James Balagizi in the FA Youth Cup on Friday evening.
The Liverpool Under-18 side got the better of their Leicester City counterparts in the last 16 of the FA Cup Youth Cup away from home.
The Merseyside club won the match 5-1 to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Balagizi was the star of the show, as 17-year-old attacking midfielder scored a hat-trick.
Match report: Woltman and Gordon hit doubles as U18s beat Wolves
Chris Shaw Three late goals earned Liverpool U18s a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Academy on Tuesday.
Max Woltman had signed off a first half packed with goalscoring chances – personally and collectively – with a precise finish to give the young Reds a lead.
But Wolves levelled just five minutes into the second period through Owen Farmer and enjoyed the better of the action in the aftermath.
Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s side rallied again, however, and secured maximum points from the U18 Premier League contest through two strikes, one a penalty, by Kaide Gordon – his first for the club – either side of another from Woltman.
Goals: Woltman 45′ 81′, Gordon 75′ pen 90+2′
Three days after their dogged victory over Man United in the FA Youth Cup, the U18s were back in league action as they welcomed Wolves to Kirkby, with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson making five changes to his side from the weekend.
Among those to come in were full-back pair Luke Chambers and Sean Wilson, and their driving runs down the flanks were a key feature throughout the first half as Max Woltman threatened up front.
Twice Woltman went close in the opening half-hour, first thwarted by an excellent stop from Wolves goalkeeper Palmi Rafn Arinbjornsson and then heading over from the edge of the six-yard box.
Youth Cup match report: Manchester United 0-1 Liverpool
Chris Shaw Liverpool U18s dug deep to defeat Manchester United 1-0 and advance in the FA Youth Cup on Saturday afternoon.
Tyler Morton’s 16th-minute header, smartly glanced over the goalkeeper, separated the sides during an entertaining first half and, ultimately, proved enough for victory.
Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s team had to see out the final quarter of the contest with 10 players after James Norris was shown a straight red card.
But they held firm to keep United at bay, preserving a slender advantage that sets up a fifth-round trip to Leicester City later this month.
