Mahama Speaks Tonight, Appoints Spokespersons On Election Petition

  The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that at about 12PM Wednesday afternoon, its leader and Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama, caused his lawyers to file a Petition in the Supreme Court of Ghana to challenge the 2020 Presidential Election Results Declaration by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana. According to the party, the Petition was filed pursuant to the party‘s audit of the 2020 Presidential results and extensive consultations with the National Executive Committee and Council of Elders of the party. “The Petition details serious violations of the 1992 Constitution by the Electoral Commission and its Chairperson and Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa in the conduct of their constitutional and legal responsibilities. NDC Announces Nine Spokespersons For Presidential Election Petition

  The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday announced a nine-member team as spokespersons for its Presidential Election Petition, filed before the Supreme Court. Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC General Secretary in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency identified the spokespersons as Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, a former Attorney General and Minister for Justice; Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga East and a former Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice. The others are Dr Abdul Baasit Aziz Bamba, a Member of NDC Legal Team; Mr Alex Segbefia, Director of International Relations; Mr Abraham Amaliba, Director Legal; Mr Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer; and Mr Kakra Essamuah, NDC Communications Director.

Declare 2020 poll results null and void – Mahama to Supreme Court The 2020 Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has in a petition to the Supreme Court prayed it to annul the results of the presidential elections as announced by the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa. He is challenging the verdict of the elections in the apex court because in his view, the results were allegedly manipulated in favour of the incumbent president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. After filing the petition on Wednesday, December 30, the NDC said in a statement that “the party wishes to inform the general public that at about 12PM this afternoon, the leader and Presidential Candidate of the party, H.E John Dramani Mahama, caused his lawyers to file a Petition in the Supreme Court of Ghana to challenge the 2020 Presidential Election Results Declaration by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

Parliament passes Road Traffic Amendment Bill into law Parliament has passed into law the Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill 2020. The Bill introduces severe punishment for road traffic offenders whose actions lead to the death of an unborn child. It s a private member’s Bill which was proposed by Members of Parliament (MPs). It is the first time in Ghana’s history that such a Bill has been approved by Parliament. The Bill amends the Road Traffic Act, 2004 (Act 683) to lay out sanctions against drivers and cyclists whose actions and inactions result in injury or death to unborn children in the womb of pregnant mothers.
