In a big push to defence manufacturing in India, 25 per cent of the research and development budget of the defence ministry will be earmarked for India’s private industry, startups and academia, Nirmala Sitharaman announced in her budget speech.
India needs to focus on developing dual-use technologies for both military and civilian agencies and special attention should be paid to research and development for manufacturing state-of-the-art defence platforms, Rajnath Singh said.

The drop in Indian arms imports seems to have been mainly due to its complex procurement processes, combined with an attempt to reduce its dependence on Russian arms. India is planning large-scale arms imports in the coming years from several suppliers, the SIPRI report said
