That strength was on display for two hours on Saturday, April 17, when parents, kids and volunteers converged on the bricks downtown to celebrate the week of the young child. Organizer Diane Livingston said the event came together in just three weeks, thanks to the community spirit of dozens of volunteers and merchants. Members of the North Platte High football team ran kids games at the main intersection – bean bag toss, a football toss and a parachute. The colorful parachute has hand grips, so older kids and adults can hoist it high in the air and younger kids can run underneath.
