Arraignment set on weapons charge for Coralville woman who allegedly helped IC murder suspect escape capture

2/28/21 An arraignment date has been set on weapons charges for a Coralville woman accused of helping an Iowa City murder suspect escape capture. 31-year-old Whitney Claybon appeared in Johnson County court on Wednesday. That’s when Judge Carl Baker set an arraignment date of March 12 th on a charge of Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Domestic Abuse Offender, a Class D Felony punishable by up to five years in prison, if convicted. Officers executed a search warrant on Claybon’s Boston Way apartment in January. They say they found five rounds of .22 caliber LR ammunition in her purse.

Coralville woman allegedly involved with April murder of IC resident facing weapons charge

01/21/21 A Coralville woman who’s facing charges involved with the April murder of an Iowa City man in his Broadway Street residence last April now faces weapons charges. Officers executed a search warrant on 31-year-old Whitney Claybon’s Boston Way apartment on Wednesday afternoon, and say they found five rounds of .22 caliber LR ammunition in her purse. Claybon was convicted of domestic abuse assault in 2017 and is not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition, and under Miranda allegedly admitted knowing the ammo was in her purse. She’s been charged with Dominion or Control of Firearms by a Domestic Abuse Offender, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
