live. but it s interesting to reflect on fact that i don t think mule worry have simply deferred to the idea that the president doesn t want to. so what i infer from that is that mueller has whatever he needs. and i should say here, i never believed for one moment that whatever it was two or three weeks ago that the mueller report was coming out that week, people have been wrong about when it comes out. but i guess my point is that of course if mueller needed to talk to the president to get at the truth, he should have done it orally. i don t think these written answers would do the trick. but evidently mueller seems to think he has what he needs. so, in that case, is that your chairman adam schiff just trying to lower expectations for what will be in it? no, i don t think so. i think i think adam was probably just trying to answer a very narrow question, this which is if you re looking for the truth should you be able to interview somebody live? none of us, including adam, know
that s all they needed to do. it seemed like they were going to do something, provide this report, but it turns out they were being very tricky in their description of what they plan because now they re saying, well, the white house reserves the right to decline to do this when appropriate. technically, though, that is still in compliance with the law. they re using the same language that president obama used when he signed this global magnitsky act into law. he showed that even though wanted this to become a law, he still disagreed with part of it. he said that, well, in a nut shell, congress can t force the white house to do something like this. it can t force the white house to issue sanctions. it can t even force the white house to issue a report on something like that if it doesn t want to. the trump administration is saying the same thing that in this case we re not going to do it. legally it holds up, but look at the way it looks when you have the cia determining that the
the president has been pressured in the past to sign legislation that he doesn t want to, including one of the early spending bills. the russia sanctions, he didn t want to do that. theb there s this other option. listen to mick muchlt lvaney about what comes next. if congress won t participate or won t go along, we ll figure out a way to do it and let s be clear about this, legal executive authority not a case of the president overstepping his bounds. my personal opinion, we want to talk to national emergencies, the opioid crisis. i think there are a lot of things that would jump ahead of that. i hope that congress does act, sends him something that s reasonable, half a loaf, three-quarters of a loaf and we can get out of this mess and get back to the business of taking care of the american people. david, you talked about the
