election laws and steal the presidential election, the republican participants are remaining absolutely silent about their participation in the plot. so let me offer a possible defense from the silent side. a member, whether it be a house member or donald trump, says that he doesn t think any of this is illegal. i thought it was within mike pence s power to do this. and i firmly believed that the election results were fraudulent. i don t have any proof of that. i just believed it because all my friends voted for donald trump. you meet the insanity defense? is that where you re describing? i didn t know that that was the insanity defense. i thought it was an ignorance defense. ignorance of the facts i suppose is one kind of excuse. but not knowing that donald trump lost the election, that is ignorance of the law. and that doesn t count. you have to be monumentally
he has never accomplished anything. and he seems to take sort of a perverse pleasure in using these opportunities to twist the knife on democrats. this seems to be why he exist in the senate. i was there when he blocked cassandra. she was a friend of mine. it was deeply heartbreaking then. he clearly has not learned anything. he clearly regrets nothing about that episode. but this seems to be what gets him up in the morning and gives him purpose in his service in the united states senate. and i think that s deeply sad. so, the other big news is that there is some deal that i can even make sense of. they are going to raise the debt ceiling with a onetime vote to evade the filibuster so that the vote for the one that would raise the debt ceiling without the filibuster doesn t count. as a bill to raise the debt ceiling, it s procedural nonsense. but it s the way the senate functions. and a lot of people said elizabeth warren said that if you can make this is election here, why not make it
rights chairman for the dccc so that shows our intention to make sure we are engaging not just around the electoral parts because if someone shows up to vote and their vote doesn t count, we didn t do our job. we are engaging around the educational piece. we ve seen state after state after state including right here in my home state of georgia enacting laws to suppress the vote so we are going to make sure we re putting resources ahead of the election to educate vote oerns how to kat their ballots, what the changes in the laws are and how to make sure they re counted even after they re cast because there have been so many changes in our battleground states across the country. i am excited to be leading in this effort for the dccc and as people tell you your budget reflects your values and we ve put the money behind the work to truly get out and meet people where they are and make sure every vote is counted in the midterm elections. she is leading the dccc s
hopefully ready to strike a deal on the build back better act, it s time for the party to use that momentum to counter the national push from republican state lawmakers to restrict the vote in battleground and diverse states as much as possible. ground zero for that effort right now is georgia where joe biden won an unexpected yet decisive victory one year ago made possible by activists of color. now the emerging battleground state is poised to see its electoral districts chopped up and skewed in the gop state s favor joining others ahead of next year s midterm elections. tonight we look at how the democrats are fighting back and
he s maybe the strangest of this crew. that wraps up the hour, everybody. i m yasmin vossoughian. i m going to turn it over to reverend al sharpton and politicsnation. good evening and welcome to politicsnation. tonight s lead, now or never. right now i hope that democrats can finally committee all of their resources, because with the fight over the bipartisan infrastructure plan finished, and with democrats in the senate hopefully ready to strike a deal on the build back better act, it s time for the party to use that momentum to counter the national push from republican state lawmakers to restrict the vote in battleground and diverse
