another record-breaking year. In the first 8 months of FY2021, the SEC has granted an additional $339 million to 57 individuals. This represents more than a third of the total $901 million awarded to 163 separate individuals since the SEC issued its first award pursuant to this program in 2012. This includes an award of $114 million in October 2020, the largest single award in the program’s history, which was covered in this recent post. It’s sometimes difficult to get a sense of what warrants these large awards.
