state department might be coming to the committee sooner or later, we don t know exactly what he meant by that. it did send a bit of a murmur through the hearing room because it seemed to be inldicating he had reason to believe the impeachment committees might be getting some of these documents, from of these notes from the witnesses, some of this paper that s been subpoenaed from the state department and more broadly the administration. in the normal course of events that is what you d expect. after the house subpoenas the state department for the purpose of these impeachment proceedings, you d expect the state department to review the documents in its possession and hand over anything responsive to the subpoena including the kind of hand written notes referenced by today s two witnesses. you d think that in the normal course of events. that said, a source familiar with the process of responding to this document request tells us tonight that the white house has instructed the state de
position that both parnas and fruman seemed to have had. yeah, that document request and request for testimony came prior to the indictment. they said they wouldn t be complying, and then they were both arrested at dulles with one way tickets. cynthia, today was the first day of i believe jury selection for roger stone s trial. it s kind of striking when you stop and think about the fact one of the president s long time associates and advisers of his throughout the campaign is on trial, and it s not in the top ten stories of the president right now. we were just talking about that in the greenroom. it is shocking this is sort of the last story of the day. but it could turn out to be it could move its way up because the trial will be interesting. we may have an answer to the question, you know, did trump really know about the wikileaks exposure in advance and the e-mail messages? and that s a pretty important thing to know for the american public. and it could be answered in this
were discussing. trump and his white house counsel insisting impeachment is currently illegitimate without a vote and thus they won t cooperate. but, of course, these democrats you see on your screen and a heck of a lot of other people already know the white house has been resisting cooperation in all kinds of congressional probes regardless of any new vote or potential vote. tonight the vice president says he won t comply with the document request, noting this is a, quote, purported impeachment inquiry. ditto from the white house budget office. and then the pentagon chief who said they would comply but is now, as you see here, rejects a house subpoena at this time. then there s rudy giuliani, the focus of these new prosecutorial subpoenas late today. well, he also dispatched a lawyer to say that he, giuliani, is rebuffing the house subpoena and then giuliani s lawyer promptly quit his job as giuliani s lawyer today. more on that story later in this show. so what you see is obviously a
ago, really questioning the entire legitimacy of the impeachment inquiry. just to give you an indication of the indifference, when i asked about the document request, i ve always been met with blank stares. the president is tweeting about this this, this morning. he s talking about the entire inquiry being illegitimate. there is no transparency. i do think we ll learn something today that is there will be a divergence in the white house and omb. and the state department up to this point complied. we don t know what the defense is going to do. if the pentagon does imply, that s an indication that the white house isn t controlling all of the departments. and they will have a problem on their hands like they have the state department. hans, i ll see you over there. appreciate that. we have a lot more to talk about, including bernie sanders back on the campaign trail for the first time since his heart attack. his campaign manager is joining
this afternoon, those same chairmen followed up with an extensive document request. there was a brave face, a snarky scoffing at the did demand for materials. i m sure that played well in the white house, but vice president pence know there s no reason to expect that he will have all of the same nooks and crannies in the law. which a president can use to evade scrutiny and prosecution. vice presidents have a little bit of that immunity, but ask spiro agnew, it doesn t work out the same way when they try to shield themselves essentially with white house immunity. that is part of what is going on. the core impeepment proceedings over the undisputed things over the president. the other thing that has exploded in the last 24 hours is the amount of evidence we have
