MUMBAI: A few months back, 30-year-old Saraswathi Ghaspute's family in Melghat urgently called the state's free 108 ambulance service as she went into.
The contract for the '108' ambulance services in Mumbai is set to expire in three days, leaving the existing operator and the public in suspense. BVG India, the current operator, has been running the service for a decade and is waiting for clarity on whether they will continue until a new agency is finalized. The tender process for selecting a new provider has faced delays and challenges. The outcome of the tender process is expected to be announced this week.

In the Pune district, the MEMS has 41 ambulances in the PMC and PCMC areas. These vehicles are fitted with Advance Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) facilities.
