Several varsities to build new campuses across Africa
Several Egyptian universities are expanding their reach in Africa by adding campuses and broadening their offerings in what higher education experts describe as a move to promote higher education development and regional cooperation and to extend Egyptian cultural diplomacy or ‘soft power’ in the service of political and economic agendas.
Public Egyptian universities that are expanding include Ain Shams University, Tanta University and Mansoura University.
Professor Mahmoud El-Matini, the president of Ain Shams University in Cairo, said on 13 January a branch campus for the university will be built in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Two new faculties, veterinary medicine and international affairs and politics, will open at the end of the year. The university has also recently opened a new faculty of archaeology.
