The Progress-Index
PETERSBURG - Old Towne resident Kathleen Kat McCay is beyond proud and excited to have reached her goal to own a brick-and-mortar restaurant by age 40.
McCay s close friends and family knew what she was up to but kept it a secret for a few weeks before McCay got the buzz going on Facebook about how her dream was close to becoming a reality.
McCay was overwhelmed with joy during the process of becoming the owner of Old Towne s Alibi in Petersburg.
Even before the contract was signed, McCay immediately began seeking fun, energetic people to serve during Saturday and Sunday brunch hours.

Some good sh t: Spice line at Petersburg shop named a Yiddish word, a compliment
The four-letter title of the spice line sold at Sweet Dixie is a nod to its creator s Jewish roots. It s also an example of Marla Cohen s zany sense of humor.

PETERSBURG Contrary to what some might think, Bg Brinkley does not necessarily see the word shit as a curse word. It s been anything but a curse for her business.
Brinkley, the owner of the Sweet Dixie on North Sycamore Street, sells a line of spices called, well . Super Shit.
It s the brainchild of Chef Marla Cohen, whose wicked sense of humor shows in the line of spices she produces. The name is an homage to a Yiddish method of cooking shit arein , (pronounced shi-tah-RINE), where a hodgepodge of ingredients is tossed into the recipe. Chef Marla, who is Jewish, learned the method from her great-grandmother.
Lunsford would not comment on the sale because there was no contract, yet.
Kat s new twist We will be bringing in new decor and brightening up everything a bit, said McCay.
