To the disappointment of a St. Thomas business owner, city council has voted unanimously to approve the installation of a roundabout at a downtown intersection where her store is located.
When Reg Gustafson was growing up in Valparaiso, he used to tag along when his dad, an Army veteran, would go on his milk delivery runs to Dixie Dairy in Gary. On any holiday honoring the military or veterans, Gustafson said his dad would stop what they were doing at 11 a.m., get out of his truck, take off his hat and spend a moment of reflection.
The “This is Gary” Heritage Day Mobile Museum tours used a green trolley to show the sights of the Midtown, Tolleston, Miller, Downtown and Glen Park neighborhoods.

A long time coming, I had decided that Main Street was going to be the site of my next walk. In spite of its proximity to Ottawa’s core, Old Ottawa East seems to fly below the radar. As a street that is loaded with examples of so much of the city’s history, the walk down Main is one of my favourites. Although it was part of a much longer walk (I wound up at Elmvale), I have chosen to focus on Main, between Hawthorne and the bridge.
