Six employees of an international courier service have been arrested for stealing at least 19 Apple phones. They were arrested on Saturday (8) following investigations conducted by the Negombo police.
DIG (Legal) and Attorney-at-Law Ajith Rohana said that among those taken into custody and remanded till May 10 (today), after having been produced before the Negombo Magistrate, were three supervisors, attached to the courier service, and three other persons of a manpower service, hired by the internationally reputed firm. DIG Rohana said that on the instructions of the supervisors, the labourers, provided by the manpower service, had opened cargo boxes at places not covered by thebCCTV camera network in operation at the BIA.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police busted an operation of stealing mobile phones sent to Sri Lanka by Air Cargo via a reputed courier service in the world.
Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said a complaint was made to the Katunayake Airport Police by a Sri Lankan resident claiming that a mobile phone sent to him by a person residing overseas via air cargo had gone missing.
The tracking of the phone package revealed the item arrived in Sri Lanka, said the Police DIG adding investigations carried out by the Negombo Divisional Crimes Detective Bureau.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Director General of Health Services confirmed thirteen (13) deaths caused by Covid-19 virus infection on Monday (03) . The total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 709, said the Government Information Department.

The deceased is a 44 year old Female resident in Divulapitiya. She was transferred from District General Hospital Kegalle to the Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura where she died on 01.05.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as acute Covid pneumonia.

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Director-General of Health Services confirmed that ELEVEN (11) COVID-19 deaths were reported in the country on Friday (Apr. 30), raising Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll to 678.
The details of the deceased are as follows:
01. A
79-year-old female from Piliyandala. She died on 30.04.2021 on admission to a private hospital in Colombo. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia.
02. A
76-year-old male from Dehiattakandiya. He died on 30.04.2021 while receiving treatment at Polonnaruwa General Hospital. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia and Severe Heart Failure.
3. A
67-year-old female from Matale. She died on 29.04.2021 while receiving treatment at Matale District General Hospital. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid Pulmonary Syndrome.
