Researchers find LRYGB leads to better weight loss, QoL measures were similar between surgeries
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) achieved somewhat greater weight loss at seven years post-surgery compared to laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG); however, both procedures led to equivalent improvements in long-term disease-specific quality of life (QoL), researchers found.
The researchers, led by Sofia Grönroos, MD, Division of Digestive Surgery and Urology, Turku University Hospital, Turku, Finland, also reported that while the two procedures were not equivalent in percentage excess weight loss (%EWL) at seven years, this difference was not clinically relevant based on the study’s prespecified equivalence margins.
